The application, documentation, and sample configuration files are included. Fernmail 1.2.2 is a minor upgrade to version 1.2.1; it fixes a few minor bugs, and has an improved memory and string allocator to reduce memory usage when opening large mailboxes. It also has the author's new address. #### BINHEX gnuucp-609.hqx **** Date: Sat, 15 May 1993 23:00:50 -4 From: jim@fpr.com (James E. O'Dell) Subject: Mac/gnuucp version 6.09 Organization: Fort Pond Research I am submitting Mac/gnuucp verison 6.09 for inclusion in the network archives and for posting to comp.binaries.mac. Mac/gnuucp 6.09 is the latest version of my port of the GNUUCP code to the Macintosh. This version includes many bug fixes, a sliding window implementation of the UUCP protocol for much improved throughput and a completely redesigned mail reader hypercard stack. I am told it works with toadnews, the shareware newsreading software, but I have not personally verified this. As with all GNUUCP programs, Mac/gnuucp adheres to the GNU copyleft. This means that complete source code is available. It will be distributed in a followup posting as soon as the binaries have been dsitributed. If you need access to them before please send mail direclty to me. For further information see the GNU license in the distribution. It is a HyperCard stack that looks inside your incoming mail files to see which of them contains mail and which don't. This stack is useful for people with several mail files. Mail Call requires a fully functional version of HyperCard 1.2.5 or later. Mail Call is PostcardWare. If you like it and find it useful send me a postcard and/or e-mail. Fixes a small script error that prevented the 8th mail file field from working correctly. #### BINHEX roberts-file-transfer-110.hqx **** Date: Mon, 27 Feb 1995 19:56:37 -0500 From: robert@rp.cam.org (Robert Pellerin) Subject: Robert's File Transfer 1.10 This utility will spool the necessary files to the SPOOLDIR in order to have a simple uucp file transfer to succeed. version 1.10: ============= Better compatibility with UUPC 3,1, solution of some bugs, addition of a command allowing to see the settings. This version does not presuppose the presence of the 'STR ' USERNAME neither SEQUENCEFILE. In the case where they would not be presented the program uses "uucp" and "SEQF". The bug that did not allow RFT to read the SEQUENCEFILE, seems to have been addressed by the same occasion. Some modifications would give a best stability in the manipulation of character chains. Typing a "C" to the main menu, make possible to see the value of the main variable of the program. version 1.00: ============= First public release. Have been tested with a Mac IIvx, and a Mac + using system 7.1, file transfer were acomplished against a Taylor's uucp system. Many thanks to Mason Bliss for reviewing the docs. The next version will fix the english language mistakes. :-) ***************************************************** * Robert Pellerin robert@RP.CAM.ORG * * Montreal-Nord, Qc Canada fax.: (514) 328-9028 * ***************************************************** #### BINHEX thread-sorter-10b3.hqx **** Subject: thread-sorter-10b3 From: Marc Liyanage Note: The only thing that has changed in this version is my email address. Threadsorter is a utility for sorting articles in UUCP/Connect news- groupfiles by thread. This release contains a small fix. The bug basically stopped the program from accepting it's own files after the first conversion. Please remove all previous versions of the software (1.0, 1.1b1, 1.1b2) from your archive. You have my permission to include the software in any future Info-Mac CD-ROM. Thanks, - John Version 1.1 Last Revised: June 9, 1994 Brought To You By: ----------------- John P. Mah Toilets 'R Us Software 201 Riviera Dr Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada P7B 6H8 Internet E-Mail: jpmah@undergrad.math.uwaterloo.ca What's New In This Version 1.1? ------------------------------- - Better SOUP packet support - Faster performance (especially when expiring) - Article "junk"-ing now supported - AppleScript support - Scheduling of unbatching and expiring of news, as well as the option to quit afterwards - Running of specified tasks at application start-up - Support for external decompressors and threaders (default "uncompress" external decompressor is also included in the package) - Interface changes - Improved error recovery - Updated online documentation What Is ToadNews? ----------------- ToadNews provides Macintosh users with the ability to be leaf-node Usenet sites. A Usenet leaf-node usually does not relay news other nodes, with the exception of the node that feeds it news. ToadNews itself takes newsbatches sent from the newsfeed and then unbatches and puts the news into the appropriate directory for perusal by your favourite newsreader or text-editor. Some other features of ToadNews include: (excerpts from the "ToadNews ReadMe First" file) - An unbatcher that can manually unbatch newsbatches (via the File menu or by drag & dropping newsbatches onto the ToadNews program icon). The unbatcher can also be configured to look in a user-configurable folder for new newsbatches and automatically unbatch news. - Can handle both compressed & uncompressed newsbatches from newsfeeds running both B-News and C-News software. ToadNews will automatically determine which type of newsbatch it is dealing with and perform the necessary operations to extract the Usenet news. ToadNews currently supports these newsbatch formats: "#! rnews", "#! cunbatch", SOUP and raw compressed. - Integrates well with variety of Macintosh-based news transports (including UUPC and MacSlurp) and newsreaders (ie: rnMac and TheNews). In addition, users without UUCP or MacTCP connections can use uqwk on their Unix accounts to create SOUP batches and download them to their Mac, and then process them withToadNews afterwards. - Decompression of newsbatches compressed with "compress" is supported provided that ToadNews can allocate enough memory to perform the decompression. Users can choose to use an external decompressor to uncompress newsbatches compressed using compression formats other than compress. - A newsgroup expirer which removes old Usenet news from your hard drive. The expirer can be configured to run automatically at scheduled times, and/or after the free space on your hard drive falls below a certain percentage of its total disk space. - Flexible expiry support. Each newsgroup can be configured to have a different expire period (in days), independent of other newsgroups. - An newsgroup list editor, which allows the user to control the inflow and expiration of news. In addition, this window also presents important information regarding newsgroups. - Support for scheduling the unbatching and expiring of news. The user can also specify when to quit ToadNews when all processing has finished. - Can run smoothly in the background under System 7. ToadNews will run in the background and quietly unbatch & expire news in the background. - Cheap software. At the Shareware cost of $25, you get a useable, useful piece of UNIX/Macintosh interconnectivity. It's even cheaper than $25 if you choose to exercise the other purchasing options available. ToadNews Requirements --------------------- - Macintosh Plus or newer running System 7, with hard drive. - A news transport (like UUPC 3.0 OR MacSlurp). - Or, a Unix shell account, and "UQWK", a Unix-based SOUP packet generator that collects news online and packages it up for downloading. - A Usenet newsreader (or very flexible text-editor), such as Roy Wood's "rnMac", and Bill Cramer's "TheNews". +------------------------+-----------------------------------------------+ | John P. It is hopefully a fat binary - that is - it should run natively on both Power Macs and classical Macs. I HAVE ONLY TESTED THIS SOFTWARE ON A POWER MAC! Yes, I recognize that this program will rarely benefit by the Power Mac's muscle, but I feel like it's a good thing to get into the habit of producing PM native code. UUCOPY is intended to allow the user to select files for transfer via the Mac version of UUPC. The first time UUCOPY is run the user is prompted to locate the UUPC settings file. This file path is stored in a Preferences file in the System folder. The user can choose any or all of the systems defined in the UUPC ROUTEVIA field as destinations through a dialog box. The selected destinations are saved in the Preferences file on exit for convenience. NOTE WELL that UUCOPY only copies data forks -- it is currently your responsibility to make sure that the information that you want to transfer is all in the data fork. For normal Mac files you may want to use BinHex or MacBinary formats. If there is sufficient interest, I'll integrate MacBinary conversion into UUCOPY. UUCOPY requires System 7.
