Contents of README:README file for APLweb.zip The three .zip files here, APLweba.zip, APLwebb.zip and APLwebc.zip are slight re-packagings of the original APLweb files (diska.zip, diskb.zip and diskc.zip) provided by Lee Dickey. The re-packaging was to avoid all files in, say, diskc.zip, being unzipped to subdirectories of c:\diskc. In this version, files are unzipped to subdirectories of the root directory; directories and subdirectories will be created as necessary, if they do not already exist. A copy of this file (readme.pav) has been inserted in aplweba.zip in \apl2web. To unzip the files, do pkunzip -d diskc.zip c:\ (changing "diskc.zip" to point to wherever you've stored the archive files). The -d option tells pkunzip to restore files to the directories whose names are stored in the archive, creating directories as necessary. It is important to use the -d option, since if you don't, similarly-named files in different subdirectories will over-write each other in one (huge) directory. The following directories will be created, if not already present on your hard disk: you might want to check that if the directories do exist, that the contents here don't overwrite files of the same name: note that pkunzip will warn you before over-writing. c:\aplplus + subdirectories: files specific to APL*PLUS-II (STSC/Manugistics) c:\aplplus7 + subdirectories: files specific to APL*PLUS (STSC/Manugistics) version 7 or above. c:\ibmapl2 + subdirectories: files specific to APL2/PC (IBM) c:\emtex + subdirectories: TeX files for emTex c:\texinput + many subdirectories: TeX files. These are intended to match the default file structure of the emTeX distribution. Whether they hold for other TeX's, I don't know. c:\metafont: files needed to generate the Computer Concrete fonts. Note that if you use an HP laserjet, these aren't necessary: all you need is the lj_apl.lib file in \emtex\texfonts. c:\pk_lj300.dpi: .pk files for Computer Concrete fonts; again, if you use the HP Laserjet, these aren't needed. c:\tfm: metric files for Computer Concrete fonts c:\apl2web: this is one of two subdirectories slightly different from the original APLweb distribution. In that distribution, there was a subdirectory \root which contained subdirectories \root\batch and \root\apl2web. The instructions for the package say that these should be collapsed one level up, and that is what I've done. In addition, the batch files in \root\batch refer to files in \apl2web, not to \root\apl2web; and that is what you get when you unzip the files in this re-packaging. Finally, the directory contains some files not in this location originally: three of these are in the form readme_n where n is a, b or c: these are the readme files that accompanied the original disks. Then there are some informational files: author.txt, distribu.tio, copying, which were originally in the root directory of diska. The final one is a file originally called just readme, located in \root. Since this directory no longer exists in the archive, I renamed the file readme.rt and placed it in this directory, for want of any other place. c:\batch: this was originally \root\batch, as described above. c:\manual: contains a .dvi form of the manual, which can be printed using a TeX dvi driver. Summary of changes: \root\apl2web\*.* --> \apl2web\*.* \root\batch\*.* --> \batch\*.* \root\readme --> \apl2web\readme.rt readme_a originally in root directory of disk a --> \apl2web\readme_a readme_b originally in root directory of disk b --> \apl2web\readme_b readme_c originally in root directory of disk c --> \apl2web\readme_c A copy of this file (readme.pav) has also been inserted in aplweba.zip, in directory \apl2web I think these files un-zip to the right places. if anyone decides that I've made errors in re-packaging of Lee's files, please let me know. -------------------- Phil Viton / October 1993 pviton@magnus.acs.ohio-state.edu |
