This directory contains official dictionaries available for GNU Aspell.
They are organized by the 2 or 3 letter ISO code.

Dictionaries named "aspell-*" are older dictionaries packaged using
the "aspell-gen" system (ftp://ftp.gnu.org/old-gnu/aspell/dict/0gen/).
They are designed to work with Aspell 0.50 but will also generally
work with Aspell 0.60.  The one exception being the English (en)
dictionaries.  The version numbers for these dictionaries start with
0.50.

Dictionaries named "aspell5-*" are newer dictionaries packaged using
the "aspell-lang" system.  Like the "aspell-*" dictionaries, they are
designed to work with Aspell 0.50 but will also generally work with
Aspell 0.60.  The version numbers of these dictionaries generally
correspond to the upstream version number.  They are always newer than
the aspell-* ones.

Dictionaries named "aspell6-*" are like the aspell5-* dictionaries but
will only work with Aspell 0.60.

If both an aspell5 and an aspell6 dictionary exists then the aspell6
version uses some additional features only available for Aspell 0.60 or
better.  This will generally mean that affix compression is used, or
at very least an affix file is provided.
