Line feeds, the Apple characters like the Apple symbol and many more appear as blank boxes in lots of fonts. Almost all of the Macintosh characters, including decimal 1-24 and 218-255, and many not in ProFont, are now visible in Anonymous(tm). Anonymous is a nonproportional or monospaced 9 point bitmap font designed for programming, and for distinguishing between characters that can easily be confused in the Macintosh reserved ROM font Monaco 9. For example, in the Monaco 9 bitmap, an uppercase O looks like a zero, and a lowercase L looks like an uppercase i. Anonymous has a beautiful overall color when set into text, and is easy to read in long stretches. The font's name begins with A for easy access in font menus. Bitmap only, not for printing. Recommended for those who are looking for a monospaced serif font and have found Monaco, ProFont and Courier wanting, and for those who spend a lot of time typing and reading on a monitor. It comes in two sizes: one to fit on a 15-inch monitor set at 640 x 480 resolution, the other sized for a 15-inch screen set at 832 x 624 resolution. Both are centered above the midpoint to provide room for two rows of init and cdev startup icons. Both images include the caption, "Welcome to Mac OS" in anti-aliased text. To use the da Vinci Startup Screen, place the file you wish to use (either the high or low resolution version) into the root-level of your System Folder (i.e., not inside any of the folders inside the System Folder). Leave its name "Startup Screen." When you next restart your Macintosh, the da Vinci Startup Screen will replace the normal Mac OS startup screen. You are welcome to do your own adaptations for other monitor resolutions and sizes. If you do so, make sure to preserve it in a usable "Startup Screen" format. Several graphics applications (e.g., SuperPaint) and perhaps some utilities are able to save and/or convert files into the proper format. While I can't imagine any particular incompatibilities, I would guess it will slow down for a few moments the startup sequence for older systems. If it slows down your system too much, or for some unforeseen reason causes your system to freeze at startup, restart with extensions off (hold down the shift key during startup) and remove it from your System Folder--then restart. Digital Diary is a project management center that gives you fingertip access to the current status of any of your projects, allowing you the ability to go back to see all activities on all projects on any day you choose. On a complex project, there could be a dozen or more separate issues being dealt with at the same time, each of which has its own distinct status and decision process. Wouldn't it be great to be able to pull up the history of each of these issues at any time? Digital Diary organizes note entries into project and day files so that current reports of all activities on any given day or project can be instantly viewed. Projects are organized under user-defined categories in a hierarchical pop-up menu. Projects can be easily transferred between categories, making it ideal for use as a convenient project status indicator. Entries are identified with a header containing the type of activity, project name, category, note number, and date and time of entry. 'To do list' entries will pop up to remind you of unattended items at a chosen future date. Versatile report generation can gather, for example, all notes of a given activity type or project status. Why would you use Find In Files? Here's an example: Suppose you have a bunch of HTML documents, and one or more of them has some information you need. You could open every one of the files and search them by hand, or use Find In Files to search for you. Simply enter some key words in the "Search For" text area, optionally enter the file search type, select the folder where the search begins, and click on Search. Find In Files returns with a list of files that contain the text, along with a text snippet. Find In Files is a fat-binary application. $10 shareware. This, (so I have been told) is called a Gantt chart. This, (so I have also been told, after posting exasperated questions in this very venue), is something you just can't DO in Excel. There are charting solutions out there, apparently, that will, and probably they would willingly snatch up exported data from other applications, but I didn't feel like shelling out for another program just for this one capability, and probably a few other folks feel the same way. The interface is simple: each bar (item) is a record; create a new record, enter start date, end date (in its current form it does not accept time entries as opposed to date entries, although since it isn't password-protected you are welcome to modify the field defs), go to next entry, and when completed run a script (visible in the Script menu) that will calculate the earliest start date and latest end date in order to graph the collection as a Gantt chart. The enclosed file comes equipped with global color fields allowing the user to set a different color for each entry, selectable via a drop-down menu. The file is easily scriptable from other FMPro solutions: create new record assumes an item name is in the clipboard, and if a relationship is defined on the basis of that item name, you can assign start and end dates from afar, and end by calling the script that figures minimum start date and maximum end date and prints or displays the resultant graph. Using FileMaker import, you can also begin with a spreadsheet or tab-delimited textfile consisting of item name, start date, end date. This solution is a CPU exerciser; you can watch it draw each row's bar on a 300MHz G3 (12-15 second screen draw), and on a IIci you find yourself anticipating the result of each pseudopixel thereof as it is calculated (go get a cup of coffee). 272K (at least on my HD), requires FileMaker Pro 3.x or higher, cross-platform insofar as I can tell. It is designed to be used for learning and teaching high school math - it is more reliable (it will produce correct graphs even for "tricky" relations) and easier to use than other graphing programs, although it is not yet as feature-rich. New for GrafEq 2.05: - The aspect ratio for graphs is no longer forced to be 1:1. - A tutorial on McLaurin approximations has been added to the manual. - 64 example graphs are now included. Most of the examples are visually attractive, and include tesselations and half-toned images. All are defined using mathematical relations which you may edit. Some relations to try include: (type them as below, or cut & paste) x^2+y^2=25 y=sine^x y=Arctan9^9^9(x-1) y=arccosx y
