Wouldn't it be nice if there was a simple way to fix these mistakes automatically and tidy up sloppy editing into nicely laid out markup? Well now there is! MacTidy is a Macintosh application designed for doing just that. MacTidy checks and corrects HTML and XML to make it compliant with the Worldwide Web Consortium (W3C) HTML standards. MacTidy also works great on the atrociously hard to read markup generated by specialized HTML editors and conversion tools, and can help you identify where you need to pay further attention on making your pages more accessible to people with disabilities. MacTidy is able to fix up a wide range of problems and to bring to your attention things that you need to work on yourself. Each item found is listed with the line number and column so that you can see where the problem lies in your markup. MacTidy won't generate a cleaned up version when there are problems that it can't be sure of how to handle. These are logged as "errors" rather than "warnings". MacTidy corrects the markup in a way that matches where possible the observed rendering in popular browsers from Netscape and Microsoft. MacTidy is based on the freely available "Tidy" program by Dave Raggett. MacTidy performs in a compatible way to "Tidy", but has a graphical user interface (GUI). Balloon Help is available for the configuration dialog. For more information on Dave Raggett's "Tidy", browse the enclosed HTML file "overview.html", visit the author's web site at , or EMail . The current version of MacTidy and other products based on "Tidy" for Mac OS can be found at . System Requirements : Any Macintosh (except Macintosh 128K, Macintosh 512Ke, Macintosh Plus, Macintosh Portable, PowerBook 100, Macintosh Classic) running System 7.0 or later. A/UX is also supported. The "Carbon" version of MacTidy requires Mac OS 8.1 + CarbonLib 1.0.2 or later (Mac OS 8.6 + CarbonLib 1.1 or later), or Mac OS X (DP4 currently supported). Presidents3000 is a "Presidential version" of the classic hangman word guessing game we all played when we were kids. It's an easy and fun way to learn all about the Presidents of the United States. It features colorful, non-violent graphics, digitized sounds, synthesized speech, Presidential pictures and information, and special options especially designed for visually challenged users. Presidents3000 is "secretly educational". It's played for fun, but you can't help learning. Learn the names of the Presidents and their Vice Presidents and First Ladies. Learn to recognize the faces of each of the Presidents. Learn their terms of office, their party affiliation, and the sequential ordering of the Presidents. Presidents3000 includes Multi-Level Winning Streak Score Boards, allowing students and family members alike to keep track of winning streaks. Separate score boards are kept for each difficulty level, so users can compete against users choosing the same difficulty level. Version 1.02 of Presidents3000 fixes a bug that prevented the program from running if the user didn't have the Macintosh speech synthesis capability installed. It makes very nice greeting cards, posters, etc. However, it is an obvious Windows port and a little clumsy to a Mac user (I use both Mac and Windows and it's disconcerting to see Windows behavior inside a Mac!) Also, the last version I've found is 4.0, while the last version of the Windows Printmaster (Silver, Gold AND Platinum) is 10.0! I believe Printmaster Gold for Mac is no longer under development. It DOES work and it makes nice cards and has a lot of fonts/graphics. Works okay for me, the "light" version is not that nice. Christian I am currently using the FAXstf light that came with my OS8.5 or OS9 software (I can't remember which) plus FaxMenu in the jmenu bar from my earlier full blown version of FAXstf (which wouldn't run with OS9 (or was it OS8.5?). Works very well for me! Just dragged in the old phone books, etc. FaxMenu is handy because although the AutoPrint and AutoOCR don't work (they never did work particularly well as far as I was concerned), it gives quaick access to STFManager, etc, and to the "Switch Printer to" menu item which is much quicker than the Chooser. -- cheers, geoff Geoffrey Heard - GH&A Public Relations Demand Indonesia return the 100,000 East Timorese held hostage in West Timor.
