To compile blas install the slackware gcc fortran package
(for VL5.8: gcc-g77-3.4.6-i486-1.tgz).

The blas makefile does not link the objects to make a fully working
library, so it has to be patched.
The patch was created based on the modified Fedora 7 makefile
(Makefile.blas), but with some changes.
