Subject: [*] Aggie's World
Aggie's World - is a collection of original illustrated stories. The
stories are in verse form, with careful attention to correct grammer,
rhyme, and meter. Readers follow the small dramas and adventures of a
young boy with an oversized T-shirt and a charmingly naive sense of
wonder at the world around him. Two of the tales feature small games, in
full color with animation and simple sound effects, that allow the
reader to re-create the events of the story. Shareware fee: $5 US.

Application Menu Extension

About This Software
This extension allows you to access the Application Menu from the left side
of the menu bar. There are other extension that do something similar but
they had compatibility problems in the past. This extension is very simple
and only uses a jGNE filter routine to hook into the system. No traps are
patched in the installation of this extension. I've been using this
extension on various machines and every recent system release ( in various
release stages) and it has not had a problem with any of them. I haven't
tested it on systems older than 7.5, but it should work. Let me now if it
doesn't.
Shareware
This extension is $10.00 shareware. Once installed and you get used to it,
you will wonder how you got along with out it. :-) You can register the
software with the register program included in this archive.

CommuniGate <-> FirtsClass gateway
Welcome to the CommuniGate FC-gateway - the gateway between the
CommuniGate System and the FirstClass(r) BBS manufactured by the SoftArc

The application allows FirstClass users to access all messaging
features of the CommuniGate System: LAN E-mail, Internet E-mail with
MIME support (UUCP, SMTP, POP3, IMAP), Faxing, Paging, File and Print
services, Mailing List services, etc.
The FC-gateway is a stand-alone application, not a CommuniGate
communication module.
The application can provide services to several FirstClass systems
connected with each other, while only one FirstClass system communicates
with the CommuniGate Server via the CommuniGate FC-gateway.
The CommuniGate FC-gateway application should run on the same computer
as the CommuniGate Server.

1.7 16-Feb-98
* The gateway is a 'fat' application now.
* Now the gateway can connect to FirstClass servers via the TCP/IP
protocol.
* The gateway can be started with the FirstClass server
(a "server-initiated" gateway).
* Default attachment encoding can be specified for messages received
from the FirstClass server.
* Now large message bodies can be supplied to the FirstClass server
as attachments.
* Bug fix: addresses could be truncated (39 character limit).

Subject: [*] Contours
What is Contours?
Contours is a program for the Macintosh which is designed to aid the 3D
hobbyist or professional. It allows one to mathematically create bitmaps
that can be used as 2D maps in a wide variety of 3D applications.
Contours creates a contour plot of a 3D mathematical function which is of
the form z = f(x,y). Each pixel in the image will be mapped to an (x,y)
coordinate pair, a value for z will be calculated, and a color will be
assigned to the resulting z value for that pixel. The color of a pixel is
determined by mapping the resulting z value to a color which is between the
color chosen to represent z min, and the color chosen to represent z max.
This allows the precise creation of 2D maps which can then be used other
apps. The images can be saved as PICT files, or as numbered PICT for
animations.
The user can input a function as a string in algebraic infix form to be
plotted which uses any of the following operators:
addition: +
subraction: -
multiplication: *
division: /
exponentiation: ^
square root: sqrt()
trig functions: sin(), cos(), tan(), asin(), acos(), atan(),
Hyperbolic: sinh(), cosh(), tanh()
absolute value: abs()
Round down: floor()
Round up: ciel()
Randon value: rand()
Logarithmic: log(), log10(), exp()

Subject: [*] DepecheOS v1.1 - A Kaleidoscope scheme
DepecheOS
A Kaleidoscope Scheme by Daniel "The BRAT" Barassi
Version 1.1 - released February 23rd, 1998
What is DepecheOS?
DepecheOS is a scheme file for the very cool shareware control panel
Kaleidoscope (which you should know if you bothered to download this). This
scheme is basically what I wanted to see in a scheme. I saw a few schemes
that I thought had great looks (Onyx, Tessarosa, etc.), but none of them
had everything I wanted. Mainly, I wanted a LOT of blue, as well as some
nice references to one of my favorite bands...Depeche Mode.
Are the any special items in DepecheOS?
Yes. I made the windowshade sound change into the intro to the Depeche Mode
song "Master & Servant". When you click to collapse a window, you hear a
high-pitched "It's A Lot", and you hear the lower pitched "It's A Lot" when
you bring the window back. Some of the other enhancements include my credit
screen (a nice hack of the MacOS startup screen), the Strangelove cover
replaces the generic icon, and I replaced the double-clickable system sound
icon with the megaphone logo cover of the "Behind The Wheel" single (but
only the full-sized icon - the smaller sound icons are still the standard
Apple ones).
Is there any fee for DepecheOS?
No. This is freeware. Since I have enjoyed all the fine shareware/freeware
that's available on the net, and all the time that people have put into
their creations, I thought this would be my way of giving back. Anyway, you
shouldn't have to pay for any scheme! Though, if you really do like the
scheme, might I suggest that you go and buy a Depeche Mode CD. You'll like
it.
Can I include your scheme on a CD Rom compilation?
No. This file contains images and sounds of the band Depeche Mode. Due to
this, distribution on any CD Rom would be illegal, since people would have
to buy the CD Rom, and since the band wouldn't see a cent of those profits.
Distribution on the net, which is free, is fine. Please alert me if you are
distributing this archive (other than a standard info-mac mirror).
Tech stuff...
This scheme was created on a PowerMac 8500/180, using Kaleidoscope 1.8.2.,
and running System 8. It runs fine for me, but I make no warranties for
you. It looks less-than-pleasant with anything less than 256 colors (I run
millions of colors myself). This scheme is designed to run only with
Kaleidoscope 1.8.2. (or newer). If you don't have v1.8.2. (or newer), go
download it!
Other thoughts...
Please do NOT include this scheme on any Info-Mac CD Roms. Due to the use
of the Depeche Mode icons and sounds, as well as the hidden Apple hack,
selling a CD containing this would be a copyright violation. Downloading
this scheme for your own personal use is fair use though.
Legalaties
All Depeche Mode sounds and icons are =A9Mute Records. The hidden Apple
screen shot is a variation of the MacOS logo, which is =A9Apple Computer.
These copyrighted items are used without permission, but with no financial
gain, and are not meant to make any of the companies appear in a bad way.
If this scheme bothers any copyright holders, please feel free to email me.

Subject: [*] FixWordSystemMemory 2.1
FixWordSystemMemory is a system extension that works around a problem with
Microsoft Word version 5.1. Occasionally Word refuses to launch, claiming
there is a lack of system memory. This is usually an intermittent problem
and often launching Word again will succeed.
FixWordSystemMemory "fools" Word in to believing there's enough space in
the system heap, which bypasses the test and allows it to launch every time.
Version 2.1 fixes a bug which caused printing to fail for some people. It
also limit the scope of the patches so that the chance for
incompatibilities is reduced. I suggest that everyone who was using an
older version of the extension upgrade to this version. This program is
totally free.

Mulligan's Golf Personal is a stats, recordkeeping and handicapping
application for the individual golfer. It provides easy entry and
analysis of a player's scores and scoring history, and supports an
unlimited number of players and courses. It tracks and computes
handicaps according to a number of authorized handicapping systems.
The demonstration version is a limited-capability release of the complete
application, upgradeable to full-featured operation. Handicapping
plugins for Golf Personal are available free to eligible registered
users. Mulligan's Golf Personal requires a 68020 Macintosh or better,
including PPC, and System 7 or later, including OS 8.
Further information about Mulligan's Golf Personal is available at the
Mulligan Software website at http://www.mulligansw.com.
Golf Personal 1.0.4 is an update to previous versions and should replace
all previous versions posted. It may be included on the Info-Mac CD-ROM.

This is a NewtonScript proto that allows programmers an easy way to create
views that can be intuitively resized by the user. I have included a
sample package which uses several resize boxes in different ways. In this
way, you can easily see how the protoResizeBox feels & reacts with
different settings, and the different design issues to be considered.
(clipping problems in particular - a good scrolling setup would usually be
an ideal solution)
The demo program is a simple little thing that allows you to add polygons
to a main view & then move them around. The views include a
protoResizeBox, and some have multiple protoResizeBoxes. This shows how
the different justifications of the protoResizeBox change its behavior.
[... clip ...]
Requirements:
Any 2.0 Newton system should be capable of running the demo package, and
protoResizeBox may be capable of running on older systems with some
modification. I want to move on to other projects.
Disclaimer:
It's not my fault if anything goes wrong! Tell me about it though, I will
try to keep it from happening again.
I hereby release this proto as freeware. As long as I get due credit for
the proto, I will be happy. Please inform me of inclusion on any CDs or
other mass distribution.

Pretty Scroll is a control panel that animates scrolling. When scrolling

Subject: Applied Engineering Accelerator
Hi,
I recently purchased an Applied Engineering 6400 68040 accelerator card to
install in my sister's IIci. I had her set up with System 7.6.1 & the
accelerator manual recommends System 7.1 because that evidently was the
last system available when AE went out of business.
I figured that I might as well try it with 7.6.1 anyway. Of course, the
control panel caused a startup freeze & Conflict Catcher verified that it
was indeed the culprit.
I was just wondering, does anyone have any experience with this
accelerator? I plan to downgrade her system version to gain the purported
500% speed increase. Do I have to use 7.1, or do any varieties of 7.5.x
work with this card? Unfortunately, I have CD's for just about any system
flavor except 7.1! Anybody know what Apple charges to order 7.1? Too bad
they don't post that system on their website!
I would appreciate any input.
Thanks,

Tim Kelly created 4 control strip modules ("CSM's") called TCP CC
(Configuration Changer), Modem CC, FruitSpeak CC, and OT/PPP CC. They each
can open their respective control panels, and also display any
configurations you have made in the control panels, and the OT/PPP CSM even
is able to connect/disconnect directly through the OT/PPP control panel
without opening it up. You can access any of your configurations in those
control panels directly from the Control Strip module without opening the
control panel itself. It makes it really quick to change to your various
saved settings.
Each little CSM is shareware and costs $1.00 each. The "FruitSpeak" (read,
"AppleTalk" but Apple wouldn't let him use their trademarked term)
configuration changer lets you change your Apple Talk settings right from
the little control strip module. Very handy!
His website address is:
http://www.madison-web.com/tkelly/ and you can download the
CSM's from that page, pay him the $1.00 for each you want to register, and
he will send you fully functional paid versions by email.

Subject: Generic Icons, Shared Folders, & Ethernet Questions
I have a few questions:
I have a lab with about 15 macs (475s, 520s, LC IIIs, Perf 6200 and a 4400)
with a few problems I can't seem to resolve.
1) The Control Panel and Extensions folder on about 6 computers have lots
of generic icons. Why? How do I fix? Virus? Or just Rebuild Desktop or Zap
PRAM?
2) I just installed ethernet cards in all the 475s, 520s and LC IIIs (the
same DaynaPort card in each). I have been only partially sucessful
installing the supporting software. For 6 computers, the install program
fails. Any ideas? I even tried to just copy the Network CP and Ethernet
Phase 2 Extension to their resective folders, but after rebooting and
choosing Chooser|AppleShare, I don't see Ethernet as an option. Help!
3) How do I share more than 10 folders on a computer? I want to set up my
lab so that everyone's files get saved to the same machine. I want to
create Users for each student in school (120+) and then create a folder on
the main computer for each of them and then allow each student access to
only that folder. How do I do it?
Any help would be appreciated.

"Since the MAC platform is not appealing for manufecturers, the options are

Unfortunatly we cann't recommand any MAC solution."
" (We have) a MAC terminal adaptor that connects to MACs GeoPort. This

Bottom Line:
Can anyone recommend a ISDN-Callback-Mac solution for 128 kb links?

I think it is possible that the problem with Apple Menu Options was not
with itself as such, but with tracking "Recent" items. Have it track recent
files, folders, and so on, significantly slows down my machine. I ALWAYS
turn it off. With it off, I have no problems with Apple Menu Options.
Also, Kenneth didn't mention if he had reset his Memory control panel after
updating to OS 8.1. If he hasn't already done so, he should go to the
Memory control panel and click "Use Defaults" (then turn off Virtual Memory
again, if he doesn't want to use it). That will set the cache to its
preferred size. Unless you set it yourself, it defaults to 96K, which will
make the computer run as if frozen.

I have a user that is using a PB3400c/OS 8.1. Something is messed up in
his computer. The symptom was that his extension manager (EM) kept
creating new prefs (My Settings) instead of using the ones we set up.
When I went to remove EM to reinstall it, I noticed that inside the
preference folder, there were MANY extra files. Each pref file that had
been used had been (at least) duplicated once, the name was truncated,
and then the suffix .SNM was added to the new file. What then happenes
is that EM cannot find the file EM preferences because the original one
has been truncated and so it creates a new pref file. This problem
happens after I ran SAM 4.5.1 (no viruses) and Norton Disk Doctor
3.5.x. I have tried to remove 3rd party extensions with no luck. I've
never seen this before. HELP!
