KERMIT BINARY FILES January 2000 This file last updated: Sat Jan 1 20:39:14 2000 Kermit software is not in the public domain. Be sure to read the copyright notices that come with each version. This directory, kermit/bin, contains 8-bit binary files, in most cases executable Kermit program images for various platforms, with names corresponding to the naming conventions used in the a, b, c, and d directories. For instance, where the msvibm.boo file in the kermit/a directory is a printable text encoding of msvibm.exe, the real msvibm.exe can be found in kermit/bin. THE FILES IN THIS DIRECTORY ARE, IN GENERAL, NOT COMPLETE KERMIT PACKAGES, BUT RATHER, ISOLATED BINARIES. A COMPLETE KERMIT PACKAGE USUALLY INCLUDES NUMEROUS AUXILLIARY FILES. C-KERMIT AND MS-DOS KERMIT ARE ALSO INCOMPLETE WITHOUT THE APPROPRIATE PUBLISHED MANUAL, "USING C-KERMIT" OR "USING MS-DOS KERMIT". Look in the kermit/archives directory for prepackaged versions of the most popular Kermit programs. Before downloading any of these binary files with Kermit, be sure to "set file type binary". If you are getting these files with FTP, also be sure to use the appropriate command to tell your FTP program that these are binary files, such as "type binary". Here is a listing of the more popular entries in this directory: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- C-KERMIT C-Kermit binaries. These are not compressed or tar'd. Just transfer them in binary mode, rename them appropriately, and chmod +x to give them execute permission. The names of the files are supposed to explain what they are: ckxnnn.info where x is u for UNIX, v for VMS, d for Data General AOS/VS, l for Stratus VOS, s for Atari ST, i for Commodore Amiga, 9 for Microware OS-9, p for Plan 9 from Bell Labs. nnn is the edit number: 188 = C-Kermit 5A 192 = C-Kermit 6.0 196 = C-Kermit 7.0 Anyone who can build binaries for versions not listed is encouraged to contact us at kermit@columbia.edu. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MS-DOS KERMIT MS-DOS Kermit binaries for the IBM PC, PS/2, and compatibles. NOTE: you should normally not retrieve MS-DOS Kermit binaries separately; they are part of a larger package, which is packaged together in a ZIP archive, msvibm.zip, stored in the kermit/archives directory. msvibm.exe -- Current version of MS-DOS Kermit for the IBM PC family msvibm_p.exe -- Ditto, but with Portuguese-language legends msvibm.pif -- Windows 3.x PIF file for current IBM PC MS-DOS Kermit MS-DOS Kermit binaries for non-IBM compatibles.
