Dr. Gomez:
Some of the PowerBooks of that era wouldn't start if the battery was flat
dead because the power adapter's power was directed to recharging the
battery so that no power was left to actually run the PB. Try rmoving the
battery from the bay and then see if the adapter will fire up the PB.

PS: About the print driver; try to run the update/patch while extensions

Subject: [*] [FTP] LSQL20_FreeTDS.hqx

LSQL is a SQL query tool for Sybase and Microsoft SQL Server. It was started
as a replacement of isql from Sybase in version 1. But now with version 2,
LSQL has a version with FreeTDS support called "LSQL for FreeTDS", which
means no need of Sybase OpenClient runtime for Macintosh. OpenClient is
still supported in "LSQL for OpenClient".

System 8.5 or higher and PowerPC are required. LSQL is threaded, and a long
query won't block other queries or other running softwares. It works on
MacOS 8.6, which was the primary reason to develop the software, since isql
can run due to the font bug on MacOS 8.6.

"LSQL for FreeTDS" has no other requirement but the one before.
"LSQL for OpenClient" requires Sybase OpenClient 10. OpenClient 11 works,
but SYBASE has to be setup to point to the folder of the interface file.

LSQL is distributed as shareware. For lateste version, mount the public
folder on my iDisk "li_hao_" using Apple's iTools at www.apple.com.

Subject: [*] AutoCheck 2.1

Automates Disk First Aid to check all mounted volumes except remote and
read-only. Tries multiple times to check busy disks, checks the startup
disk last since it's more likely to be busy if running AutoCheck at startup.

Recent OS versions will run DFA automatically after a hard crash, but this
checks the startup disk only. Since so much disk damage is incremental,
running AutoCheck is well worth it. Users say "cool... very fine...
excellent... very useful... works like a charm".

New in this version: faster, better error reporting.

Free. May be included on AMUG, Info-Mac and UMich CDs.

Subject: [*] Convenient Text Cleaning on Emails

You can put Email Cleaner on your Info-Mac CD.

Emails and newsgroup posts become very messy ("badly wrapped") when
people reply to them, because of the over-simple way that most programs
handle the text.

Email Cleaner cleans up emails and newsgroup posts. It fixes badly
wrapped lines. It can wrap your emails to any width, keeping all your
precious quote marks in the right place. It has other cleaning features,
such as adding quotes and removing quotes, while keeping your email neat
as the same time.

Email Cleaner is an expert at cleaning up badly wrapped emails. It is
easy on the user. It integrates with all your programs, cleaning text
from a small window that floats in front of all your programs.

Email Cleaner has a lot of support for AppleScript.

It needs any PowerMac at all, and MacOS 7.5 or better.

Version 1.3 of Email Cleaner can clean up text with one mouseclick! No
more manual copy and paste.

Version 1.5 has a much clearer interface, the ability to strip HTML
without stripping emails or urls in the HTML, is 8x faster, better
AppleScript support and has the ability to add spaces before every line,
and works smarter on emails than before.

Subject: [*] FTP German Dictionary 1.5.2

Please include this program on your online archives and also on the
commercially available CD-ROMs of the archives.

What is German Dictionary?

It's a shareware English-German dictionary for Mac users, containing English
words with translations into German. You can find all the entries that
contain any particular English or German word by typing or pasting the word
into the Find box and pressing the Return key. The dictionary collects all
the entries that match what you've entered, and displays the English and the
German side-by-side. You can copy words from the dictionary and paste them
into another document. You can collect English words (with their German
translations) in a separate window and study them together. The user can
easily create additional plug-in dictionaries to supplement the dictionary
provided with the program. You can listen to the English vocabulary if you
want. You can type or copy other English text into a separate window and the
program will read it aloud. (You need to have the Apple Text-to-Speech
software to use these features). You can use the dictionary in several ways
to help you to study grammar. The German translations include information
about whether the English word is a noun, an adjective, a verb sometimes
it's all three! You can search for grammatical abbreviations, like "av" for
"adverb" and the dictionary will display dozens of English adverbs with
their German translations. A separate window displays the English irregular
verbs. Suggestions from users have helped us to develop the dictionary into
a useful and easy-to-use everyday tool. The relatively low memory
requirement and the optional MiniWindow mean that many users can keep it
open to refer to while they work with other programs. The program allows you
to choose either English or German for the user interface language (buttons,
menus and dialog box). Choose "User Interface Language" from the File menu.

System Requirements:
Macintosh, PowerBook, Power Macintosh, iBook or iMac.

German Dictionar is shareware.

HTML OptimizerPro 1.1.1

What it is: Tool for checking and optimizing your web pages.
Author: Ton Brand
Licence: shareware
Computer: PowerPC
Mac OS: 7.5 or later
Abstract:
HTML OptimizerPro's main function is to save space on your web pages by
removing unnecessary characters and tags, making parsing the page by a
browser more efficient.
Four other useful functions of HTML OptimizerPro are:
(1) Checking the so called tagged pairs, i.e. the tags that always have to
appear together with their end tags. Further, IMG tags are checked for WIDTH,
HEIGHT and ALT attributes. ALT attributes can be added if missing, with or
without string.
(2) Checking the validity of the internal links.
(3) Marking dangling tags and missing attributes to find them quickly.
(4) Converting special characters to the &....; notation.
HTML OptimizerPro optimizes very fast: a few seconds for an average file.
HTML OptimizerPro is a PPC application and requires Mac OS 7.5 or later.

Subject: [*] Joe's SmartProxy 1.02

Hi,

Joe's SmartProxy (JSP) is a personal web proxy, or http cache, for
Macintosh. JSP stores your every HTTP request in local index databases
and the contents of the web pages on your hard disk. If you ever had
problem finding a URL which you've just visited a week ago but had a
pretty clear memory of what the page is about, JSP's 'Search in Cache'
function is just for you. JSP is not a usual URLs bookmark manager. JSP
index all your web visits by content. It is much easier for us to keep
fresh memory of the contents we read instead of the cryptic URLs, which
might be deeply burried somewhere in our long bookmarks file. If you are
using a dial-up modem to connect to the Internet and are constantly
worried about your telephone bill --- like many of us in continental
Europe --- you can use JSP to surf the pages which you have visited even
when you are disconnected. You should notice no difference after you
install JSP correctly as you surf.

JSP need PowerMacintosh and Mac OS 8.
